The minor closter of the humanities library

Biblioteca umanistica sala fregio

Starting on Monday, 12 May, the new premises of the humanities library, located on the first floor of the minor cloister of the Sant'Agostino complex,  will be open to the academic community and citizens.
Although not directly connected, the new rooms can be considered an extension of the current library, which will therefore consist of a section located in the main cloister and another located in the minor cloister of the same complex. The new wing will, therefore, be accessible during the same opening hours, from Monday to Friday, from 8:00 to 19:30.

In addition to the large covered cloister, equipped with reading tables and with the display of a selection of journals, the new library rooms include a large reading room called Sala del Fregio Allegorico, a second room called Sala dei Medaglioni, where general reference works and valuable series are collected, an Art Room dedicated to the collection of art, cinema and theater, and a space for group study.
The relocation of a part of the collections to the new wing of the library made it possible to redistribute the entire open shelf collection in the main cloister, and increased the space available for the new collections.

The expansion of the library is even more significant in the number of reading places: 110 seats in the minor cloister are added to the current 91 for a total of 210 reading places available to users.
Inside the Allegorical Frieze Room there is a second loan desk that acts as a distribution point for the volumes of the interlibrary loan service and as an information desk.
The new wing also houses the office for the reference service, the cataloging and purchasing office and the office for the archivist and the museum curator.
